Adjusting to Dallas + Shop The Look

So, in case you haven’t heard, I recently packed up and moved from my hometown of San Antonio, Texas to Dallas to live with my fiancé and pup, and I have to say, it’s been pretty great! Although driving on the highways in Dallas is way more intense (terrifying) than it is in SA, and I have absolutely no idea where I am going 99% of the time (thank God for google maps), the adjustment has been pretty smooth. I am loving the fact that I actually get to see Justin everyday  instead of our daily texts and chats via FaceTime.

Little by little the unpacking is getting done and the house is coming together, and so is our new life. Although I do miss living in the city that I grew up in, and know like the back of my hand, and miss all of my best friends and family, I am so beyond excited to begin this next chapter in my life in a new city with my soon to be husband!

Now I just need to meet new friends and bloggers in Dallas and find new shops, restaurants and cool places to go! Let me know in the comments below if you are in the Dallas area or have any recommendations.

Inbalance Yoga Retreat Recap + Shop My Current Favorite Activewear

Okay so I know this post is long overdue but last month was a complete whirlwind for me. Between graduating college (YAY!) and transitioning into ‘official adulthood’, wedding planning, and the loss of my Grandmother, it was a complete rollercoaster and I took some much needed time off from blogging to process and adjust to all of these big changes in my life. After traveling a bit and spending time with friends and family I’m ready to jump back into my daily routine, which for now, includes creating blog and social media content and getting back into my workout routine at InBalance.

Last month Justin and I went on the InBalance yoga retreat to beautiful Tulum! It was a perfect location for the long peaceful, relaxing weekend. We stayed at the gorgeous Dreams Resort, which was right on the beach and had a luxurious spa, two pools, several bars and restaurants (all inclusive), and tons of fabulous activities and amenities. #inbalanceinmexico

While in Tulum, we also got the opportunity to go on excursions. Justin and I decided to visit the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza, which was absolutely incredible. It is a must see if you are ever in the area and was hands down one of the highlights of our trip.

When we weren’t hitting the beach, bar, or exploring the ancient ruins of Chichen Itza, we were up bright and early, with Hope and the InBalance squad taking yoga classes on the beach. If you ever have the opportunity to do yoga on the beach, do it! It was so peaceful to do yoga on a beach so early in the morning when the beach is practically empty and you can hear the sound of the ocean and feel the cool breeze. It makes holding those planks much more tolerable, trust. #namastayatthebeach

I’ve always had a love for yoga, but after this trip I’ve become much more determined to take as many yoga classes as I can to build up my strength and flexibility. I’ve taken yoga classes other places in the past, but the classes at InBalance are by far my favorite. The instructors are super helpful and not at all intimidating, which is nice for a semi-beginner, like myself. Since I’ve upped my yoga game over the past few weeks I definitely feel like I’ve gotten much more flexible (almost at a split, yall!) and have strengthened my core muscles immensely, which definitely comes in handy, when taking barre classes as well. InBalance has added several new classes and programs for the summer and even offers free community classes most weekends. Make sure to follow InBalance on Instagram and Facebook for updates, events, and to RSVP for the next yoga retreat!

Coachella 2017 Recap + Video

Another Coachella has come and gone, and it was nothing short of amazing! As you all know I have such a deep love for this event. There’s just something so magical about being in this beautiful place surrounded by desert, mountains, palm trees, and incredible live music (..er and about 20million people). It’s probably one of the only times in my life I don’t mind the massive crowds because the vibes are just so fun. Everyone is looking to have the time of their lives, and this is the place to make that happen.

For the second year in a row I stayed at the beautiful Safari tents at Coachella, which means my squad and I got to arrive at the festival grounds Thursday, before the festival even started. The hype was real. We were beyond excited to check in to our luxurious Safari tent and glamp it up. Don’t let the word ‘tent’ fool you. The Safari tents at Chella are spacious, air conditioned, fully furnished with two double beds, seating areas, full length mirrors, and a mini fridge. Better than a lot of hotels, actually. They also have community bathrooms, showers, and a sick lounge area where they have a live dj everyday, a full bar, and serve complimentary breakfast, snacks, and dinner. They even have comfy seating areas and a huge TV where they live stream all the performances at Coachella, you know, in case you came all the way to the festival but would rather watch it on a screen (HA!). Being a Safari guest means you also have access to a ton of perks like a 24/7 concierge service, complementary massages in the Spa Yurt and daily morning yoga classes, golf cart drivers to take us directly to each stage (and backstage), access to the VIP area, VIP Rose Garden, the even more exclusive Artist Lounge, and an up close viewing area at all the stages.

In addition to staying at the luxurious Safari campgrounds we also attended several Coachella parties over the weekend including the Young Turks party at the Palm Springs Air Museum. This event had live performances from Jamie XX, Four Tet, Sampha, and more. It took place in an hangar with historic aircrafts, which was such a unique experience. We also attended the Day Club pool party at the Hilton Palm Springs. This was our second time attending this party. It’s always such a good time with live Dj sets from big names such as Skrillex, and Dillon Fancis, vendors, such as L’Oreal, handing out free swag, and bars serving up cold drinks in a coconut (because everything tastes better from a coconut).

When we finally ventured out to the festival, it was just as amazing as I remembered. The festival grounds were even bigger this year than previous years with new art instillations, 100s of restaurants, bars, boutiques, and of course the many stages of Coachella. There were also a number of air conditioned sponsored tents, such as the Heineken tent, H&M tent, and my favorite, the Sephora tent, which offered complimentary makeup touch ups, flash tats, body gems, a fragrance bar, and a braid bar by Ouai haircare.

The ferris wheel is also a must at Coachella in order to get the full view of the festival grounds.  It got a little update this year too, with much needed air conditioning added to each cart. The view is totally worth the $10 ticket and waiting in line, trust me.

One of my favorite parts of Coachella is, of course, the outfits! I am obsessed with the fashion culture of Coachella and getting to dress up in these edgy, bohochic looks is reason enough to attend. It’s not everyday that you’ll find me in fringe, leather, and mesh with glitter in my hair (all at once), but it is 100% acceptable and very much expected at Chella. Coachella fashion has become such a culture of it’s own that the festival looks more like a runway for bloggers, celebrities, and fashionistas to showcase their #coachellastyle. It’s so interesting to see what everyone is wearing at the festival and is often reported on more than the actual performances. I’m not gonna lie, my friends and I had just as much fun getting dressed each day, putting so much thought and intention into every detail of our outfits, than we did at the concert, itself.

Let’s not forget the reason we all go to Coachella, the music! We were so lucky to be front row in the Artist Viewing area to see all of our favorite artists, including Lady Gaga, Radiohead, Kendrick Lamar, Father John Misty, Porter Robinson & Madeon, NAO, Dillon Francis, Galantis, Bon Iver, and Local Natives. Each performance was absolutely incredible. It’s very clear that the artists are just as excited to be there as the fans are, so the energy is just amazing.

Being in the Artist Lounge, meant we also were in the presence of all of the performers of Coachella, as well as the celebrities who attended. A few stars we encountered over the weekend included Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Kendall Jenner, Rihanna, G-Eazy, DJ Khalid, Porter Robinson, Shay Mitchell, Carmen Electra, NAV, Wiz Kahlifa, and Gigi Hadid #starstuck It’s so exciting to see these celebs up close in person, and most of them are so nice and love taking photos with fans.

If you followed me on Snapchat (@chicintheHOT) and Instagram (@chicintheheartoftexas) than you saw my stories and got a BTS experience of my epic weekend, but ICYMI, I created a flipgram highlighting some of my favorite moments that you can watch down below.

Until next year, Coachella!

XOXO

International Women’s Day X Global Purpose

Today is International Women’s Day. A day in which we recognize and celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women all around the world, as well as advocate for a more gender inclusive world.

This year for International Women’s Day I’ve teamed up with Global Purpose, an ethical sourcing company whose mission is to help brands operate more sustainably and humanely. Global Purpose is owned and operated by Kaylyn Jordan and her husband Jon Jordan. They aim to provide education, healthcare, and income opportunities to women and children living in vulnerable countries, including Haiti, India, and Uganda by reinvesting the sales of their ethical and sustainable products.

In honor of National Women’s Day, I am adding accessories from the Artisan Line by Global Purpose to my OOTD. This sari scarf, drawstring bag, and bracelets are all made by women in India, empowering them and providing them and their families with education and healthcare. You can shop all of these beautifully made products at HEB.

How are you celebrating International Women’s Day? Let me know in the comments below.

All About inBalance + Video

About a month ago I told y’all about how I teamed up with inBalance and became one of their brand ambassadors (read about it here), and I’m proud to say that ever since I joined the team, I’ve been keeping up with my workout routine and loving every minute of it. And that’s saying a lot for me, since working out has never quite been my cup of tea. I’ve had other gym memberships in the past but I never stuck with it because it always felt super intimidating for me to work out by myself in a sweaty, florescent lighted room filled with fitness fanatics who practically lived there, while I was struggling to keep up on the treadmill or acting like I knew what the heck I was doing with those crazy weight machines (I was definitely doing it wrong btw).

Don’t worry yall inBalance is nothing like those other gyms. It is a small, (super cute!) boutique styled gym that offers a huge variety of classes, including barre (my personal fave), pilates, yoga, dance, TRX, cardio and more. These classes are all taught by the fabulous inBalance instructors, who are all so encouraging, energetic, and helpful.

At first, I was hesitant to try workout classes, since I had heard horror stories from friends about taking classes at other gyms with instructors who would call out and embarrass people who weren’t keeping up and push people to work out so hard that they ended up hurting themselves. But let me just say that is NOT at all how inBalance classes are.

The inBalance instructors understand that each person in the class is at a different fitness level and don’t have ridiculous expectations for beginners to be working out at advanced levels. I know when I signed up for my first barre class, I was so nervous because I didn’t have a clue what to expect and didn’t even know any of the moves, but the instructors were so helpful that they offered to meet with me for a few minutes before my first class to teach me a few moves and basically give me a preview of how my fist class would go down. It was a blast. Every single class that I’ve ever taken at inBalance has been such a great experience. The music is always fun, the instructors are always challenging but in a positive and encouraging way, and the community itself is made up of awesome people #goodvibesonly

Another cool reason to love inBalance is that they not only offer tons of classes at their gym, but they also offer free community classes on weekends at different locations, such as La Gloria, Paramour, and Athleta. These classes are open to non-members as well, so be sure to follow inBalance on Instagram and Facebook to find out about these classes and feel free to join us!

Along with offering tons of classes for adults, inBalance also offers private sessions, classes for kids and teens, babysitting and nutrition programs as well #noexcuses

They even take awesome yoga retreats each year to incredible destinations. This April inBalance will be taking a trip to beautiful Tulum and I am beyond excited to be going along with them, staying at a gorgeous all inclusive hotel on the beach, and taking yoga classes taught by inBalance instructors! Click the photo below to learn more about the inBalance yoga retreat.

Meet Hope, the owner of inBalance, Adriana (aka Toasty A) another brand ambassador, and get a sneak peek of inBalance by watching my All About InBalance video below.

Enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day! + Lily Rain Event Info

Happy Valentine’s Day yall! I have always loved this holiday ever since I can remember. I always loved dropping Valentine’s Day cards into everyone’s decorated shoe boxes every Valentine’s Day in elementary school, which was usually followed by a classroom party where we all ate wayyy too much sugar and probably drove our teachers insane (sorry, not sorry).

To this day I still feel so much excitement each year when February 14th rolls around,  and not because of the cheesy heart shaped chocolate boxes, oversized stuffed bears, red roses, overpriced set menus, or the fact that I’m engaged, but because I always feel that it is a time where people feel encouraged to express love and appreciation for those who mean so much to them, whether it be your S.O., friend, classmate, coworker, or family member. Spreading the love is a rare thing these days, so it’s a nice change of pace when people can stop and smell the roses (pun intended).

This Valentine’s Day I want to encourage everyone to let the important people in your life know how much you care about them. Even if you just send a quick “Happy Vday” text (with various heart emojis obviously, have some respect).

But if you prefer to go the more traditional route and shower bae with gifts, I highly encourage you to come meet me and all the cool girls at Lily Rain at the Alamo Quarry this evening from 5-7 where there will be wine, treats, and 25% off select items! (Yes, I said free wine!) Click here for more info.

What are your plans this Valentine’s Day? Let me know in the comments below.

Settling Into 2017.. So far, so Good

So this is my first official blog post of 2017. If you follow me on Snapchat (@chicintheHOT) or Instagram (@chicintheheartoftexas) you probably know that I had been traveling quite a bit over the holidays. But ICYMI I spent Christmas, my birthday (12/27), my future sister-in-law’s birthday (12/30), and NYE in Las Vegas with my fiancée and best friends. And it was pretty epic.

Some of the highlights of the trip included:

1. Getting to stay in the Mansions at the MGM Grand

2. Afternoon tea at the Mandarin Oriental

3. Attending NYE performance by Drake at Hakkasan (my favorite club in Las Vegas)

4. And my first private jet experience from Las Vegas to Napa for my future sister in law’s bday.

Yeah, EPIC.

So now that I’m back home and settling into 2017, I want to get right down to business and discuss a few of my goals for this year.

First and foremost,  I want to enjoy myself this year. It’s a pretty big year for me, after all. This year I’ll be graduating from college, finally moving in with my fiancee, and begin wedding planning. So, even though it will be a very busy year, I want to try my best not to get overwhelmed, caught up, or stressed out in all the excitement. I really want to try hard and make time for myself to enjoy these big moments, even if it means, unplugging for a few hours at a time, as difficult as that can be.

Another goal I want to accomplish this year is to live a more healthy lifestyle. If you follow me on social media, you may know that I’ve recently teamed up with inBalance, and am now one of their brand ambassadors, which means I get to take all of their incredible classes (yoga, pilates, and barre, to name a few) and tell yall all about it! Since I plan on wedding dress shopping later this year, I have plenty of motivation to hit the gym extra hard.

Stay tuned to learn more about inBalance and follow along on my social media for updates on the classes and my workout routines.

How are you settling into 2017? And what are some of your goals for the year? Let me know in the comments below.

ACL Weekend 2 Outfit Inspo + Flashback to Weekend 1

ACL

I survived my very first Austin City Limits Music Festival y’all and had a great time doing it! The weather was great and music was phenomenal but, my favorite thing about music festivals, as you know are the outfits that come along with them! Even though I won’t be attending weekend 2 of ACL, I’ll still send you off with a little outfit inspo to get you through the weekend, as well as a little flashback from weekend 1 and the 3 outfits I wore.

Weekend 1 Flashback

The Platinum passes I managed to score came with many extra perks, including an ACL swag bag, free breakfast tacos, lunch, dinner, and snacks catered by chef Tim Love, an open bar in the beautifully decorated and air conditioned Katie Kime Platinum Lounge, a private viewing area right next to each stage, and private golf cart rides around the park, to name a few. It was pretty freakin’ sweet, I’m not gonna lie. Some of my favorite performers this year were Major Lazer + Diplo (which I saw at the ACL late night show at Emo’s), The Chainsmokers, Haim, Cage the Elephant, Kendrick Lamar, Radiohead, Flume, Kygo, LL Cool J, and Mumford and Sons, which I got to see up close from the Platinum viewing area. It was an incredible experience. I also got to stay at the beautiful, new, South Congress Hotel, which I am now 100% obsessed with. The moody, understated, loft style decor in that hotel is basically what I want my future home to look like someday.

What I Wore for Weekend 1

Day 1: I wore a DIY dress that I made out of a Metallica Tshirt that I cut to create a choker illusion/deep v neckline. I layered the dress over a lacy bralette, (alá Kendall Jenner). I tied a basic denim shirt around my waist and added a vintage belt and booties to complete the look.
